Appreciation

Accepting and appreciating what you have is the best habit you can develop.

The most natural thing for us is to complain and murmur. Like the Israelites did after God rescued them from Egypt.

I was never so fond of history until I read about the Israelites in the Bible.

And I thought, how could they? I mean, look at their attitude! They weren’t just ungrateful but also rebellious.

They had escaped from Egypt alive and were finally free from slavery, bondage, death, and fear!

God parted the Red Sea for them. Did they thank God?

Nope.

God gave them manna when they had nothing to eat. They still murmured.

He gave them a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud during the day. They were alive! Wasn’t that enough? They weren’t slaves anymore! What more did they want?

Our Lord is a promise-keeping God. He doesn’t change, His nature doesn’t change, and His love, well, that never fails.

God took them to Canaan, as He had promised. And it was a land filled with milk and honey, just as He had promised.

Manna

But, you know the Israelites took 40 years to reach Canaan when the journey was actually for less than a fortnight.

While reading this, I started thinking of how ungrateful I am sometimes. How I complain when I don’t get the simplest of things, things that I love. It was like a mirror in front of me. That’s the Bible, folks. It isn’t just a book of history, it is a mirror. It is full of life.

Maybe for some, the journey taken by the Israelites might be just another story. For some, this might be history. For me, it’s an example and a lesson to appreciate my present and be thankful for it. God always has a plan and He has a purpose. He wants all of us to be saved from sin. But He will never force us, as that would be against His nature.

What are you thankful for today?
