What a friend we have in Jesus! In our daily lives, we face several trials and challenges, which often give us a sense of loneliness, pain or even anger. We can feel constantly burdened by the weight of our troubles on our shoulders. However, through all our pain and suffering, we must a great sense comfort knowing that our Lord Jesus is standing with us. He will be the truest friend we could ever have. He is always ready to listen, care, love and guide us every single moment of our lives here on this earth.
The Bible reminds us in John 15:13-15 (KJV):
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.”
The word sacrifice means to give up something that holds value to you, or something you love. Our Lord Jesus gave up his life for someone He loves. He took on all our sins upon Himself, suffered, bled and died on that cross so that we might have eternal life in Him. We never deserved it, yet, He had mercy on us and blessed us with His grace. In this, our Lord Jesus demonstrated the ultimate act of friendship. Our Lord promised to always listen to us without judgment, comfort us in our sorrows and strengthen us in our weaknesses.
Our Lord shows us what a friend truly means. We have the greatest blessing of being able to run to Him at any instance. Whether we are breaking down and need to rise again, need a little guidance in a small decision, facing a major life change that feels overwhelming or anything we might find difficult to accomplish on our own. We never have to worry, our Lord is a strong and mighty tower standing right there with us, ready to hold us up so we never fall. We can always lean on Him. He is a faithful friend in every circumstance, always present and unwavering. He is also a forgiving friend. There will be times when we make mistakes, but we can always go to our Lord to ask for forgiveness and guidance.
As Psalm 34:17-18 (KJV) says:
“The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
In our lives, we all have friends we turn to for advice, though their guidance may not always be right for us. However, we can have complete faith that our Lord will always guide us on the right path. There will be times when our hearts feel broken, nothing seems to make sense and we feel trapped, yet we must still rejoice in the Lord and find true happiness in Him. Everything the Lord does for us unfolds according to His perfect plan and in His perfect timing. His love for us is greater than we can ever fathom and He will only do what is best for His children. No matter what challenges you face today, always remember you have a friend who never leaves, never fails, and always loves — Jesus Christ.
We should remember that talking to our Lord is like talking to our closest friend, it’s not a complicated process, it’s simple and natural. We can share our hearts with Him freely and we do this through prayer. There is no restricted time limit or period for when we can pray. Whether in times of need or simply when we need someone to listen. He is always there ready and patiently waiting to listen, comfort and embrace us with love. Friendship with Jesus is not just for moments of need, it is a lifelong relationship. The more we spend time with Him in prayer, meditation, and reading His Word, the more we grow in His love, wisdom, and peace. We are equipped to reflect His friendship to others, showing kindness, patience, and compassion to those around us.
May we lean on Him daily and allow His friendship to guide our hearts and lives.
